This chapter examines, through interviews and an ethnographic lens, an evolving faith-based movement of churches, nonprofits, and social entrepreneurs who are embedded in disinvested urban and rural communities to help develop new models of affordable housing, such as tiny homes, and facilitate local entrepreneurship. For example, church members and partnering churches may commit themselves financially by either directly investing in the development of tiny homes or purchasing real estate in disinvested neighborhoods to use privately as affordable housing. Funds are also apportioned to help develop local businesses and encourage small business ownership. This chapter explores a range of development models for housing and entrepreneurship, as well as the complexities and nuances of this faith-based movement’s collective action.
