The conception to prepare and write this book arose due to a growing recognition of the pervasive and often overlooked effects of mining and metallurgic industry pollution on community residents in the central African Copperbelt region. As environmental degradation and pollution levels continue to rise, more and more people are experiencing first-hand serious consequences on their health, well-being, food and nutrition security, and economic stability. Inhabitants have loudly cried out to political leaders, but not one has heard them. There is, therefore, a critical need to bring out attention to the disproportionate impact of pollution on marginalized communities, who often bear the brunt of environmental harm without adequate resources or support to mitigate the effects.

摘要
