Study 2024: Bringing the Groups Together: Youth Groups in Dialogue with Policymakers
摘要
This chapter examines strategies for bridging the gap between policymakers in The Hague working on peace and justice issues, and young people from diverse backgrounds and districts. Focusing on three key districts—two high schools in distinct areas and two youth centres in Escamp—the chapter explores how facilitated dialogues between youth and policymakers, mediated by students, can enhance mutual understanding of Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions) and other relevant goals for The Hague. The study builds on the social cohesion theory, and makes a distinction between social relations, identification, and orientation towards the common good. The research employs Q-methodology, using 24 statements to capture the perspectives of 82 respondents (14–25 years old). The analysis reveals that some groups are more difficult to engage than others, concluding with recommendations on how to effectively reach these underserved populations.
