This chapter introduces the rationale, scope, and limitations of a multi-method study exploring how youth in The Hague engage with Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions). It situates the local context within broader global concerns about youth participation, civic trust, and systemic inequality. Drawing on participatory approaches and theories of social cohesion and identity, the research emphasises the importance of youth voices—especially from marginalised groups—in shaping inclusive policymaking. While rooted in The Hague, the findings hold broader applicability for urban areas facing similar challenges. The chapter also reflects on the concept of child justice, arguing for sustained, trust-based engagement that recognises youth as co-creators of peaceful and just communities. A set of recommendations highlights how municipalities can institutionalise youth participation, improve trust with authorities, and invest in education and social infrastructure to strengthen local–global connections around SDG 16.
