The Proliferation of Disinformation in the Information and Communication Age: “News Literacy” as a Framework for Critical News Reception
摘要
Advancements in information and communication technologies have introduced various literacy concepts in the media field, such as digital, media, social media, and artificial intelligence literacy. These developments have disrupted traditional media structures, leading to a surge in diverse news sources and platforms, and increasing the volume of daily news content. However, this growth has raised concerns about news quality, particularly with the rise of fake news, manipulation, and disinformation. In this context, news literacy has become essential, as distinguishing reliable, verified information from false or misleading content is increasingly difficult. Given the media's powerful role in informing society and shaping public opinion, audiences need news literacy skills to protect themselves against misinformation. This need is widely acknowledged in academic research, which focuses on how and why audiences engage with news, how they are influenced by it, and how they interpret it. As issues of fake news and disinformation grow more prominent in journalism, this study explores the concept of news literacy and highlights its importance in understanding and navigating today’s complex news environment.
