Smart, but Cybersecurity—Vulnerable Cities
摘要
Smart cities rely on technology to improve the quality of life for their citizens. However, the use of technology also introduces risks of cybersecurity attacks. This chapter discusses the new threat landscape caused by relying on technology for city operations. The paper discusses transport, energy, waste management, and water supply. The Internet of Things (IoT) plays an increasingly important role in city operations but also makes smart cities more vulnerable to attacks. At the same time, cities are developing more connected and complex systems, often using cloud-based services. New ways of accessing systems from everywhere using personal devices also introduce vulnerabilities. The chapter ends with some recommendations for cities to help them protect against cyberattacks and handle cybersecurity events.
