Between 2007 and 2019, ethnoarchaeological research in Romania resulted in the development of a radial ethnographic model for salt resource supply (e.g., salt springs and salt outcrops), tailored to inland continental areas. This chapter evaluates the validity of the 30 km-radius ethnographic model by applying it to archaeological sites near two major salt resources in southern Transylvania—Ocna Sibiului and Miercurea Sibiului—which are located approximately 23 km apart. A long-term perspective integrates this spatial axis with a temporal one, spanning from the Neolithic era to the transformation of the Dacian Kingdom into a Roman province. The findings indicate that these salt resources likely contributed to the demographic density within the studied spatio-temporal framework, as evidenced by current archaeological discoveries.
