This chapter provides a first-hand account of a modern-day method of salt production in the Philippines, in which enriched brine is boiled in earthenware vessels to produce salt cakes. Historical evidence suggests that this method has deep roots in the Visayas (Central Philippines). The chapter also examines relevant historical evidence, followed by an ethnoarchaeological description of this salt-making process in Bohol Province. From this, it outlines key archaeological correlates associated with the method and its related pottery, which may be significant for comparative research.
