We argue that the guiding idea of the artificial intelligence research programme, which we call the quest for automated intelligence, is not the appropriate one for giving an account of the relationship between humans and the computational devices they design and use. We should instead change the very question of intelligence by one of creativity, and provide a model for automated creative cognition, as a quest for it. Such a model is found in the work of Lorenzo Magnani. We begin by looking into characterizations of intelligent tasks, such as problem-solving and learning, both already present in the work of Alan Turing. Concerning creativity, two are the key concepts: abduction and heuristics; the former proposed by Charles S. Peirce and the latter promoted by many, and most notably, by Herbert Simon. The new guiding idea is a quest for automated creative cognition, one in which abduction takes a main role, and can be represented in in the Eco-cognitive model of abduction devised by Magnani, where there a continuous interplay with various internal and external supports.

摘要
