This mixed-methods study presents a comprehensive evaluation of TG competencies, contributions, and challenges in promoting sustainable tourism across key destinations in Western Visayas, Philippines. The Department of Tourism (DOT)-accredited guides were examined on their professional profiles, skill levels, contributions, and the challenges they encounter within the tourism sector. The quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews provided the data involving TG, tourists, and industry stakeholders. Findings reveal that TG significantly contribute to the region’s economic, socio-cultural, and environmental aspects. They often face low wages, limited benefits, and competition from unauthorized guides. The importance of addressing these challenges are underscored to improve service quality and support the sustainable growth of tourism in Western Visayas. This study recommendations inclusion of policy reforms for fair compensation, standardization of accreditation processes, and expanded training opportunities. These are aiming to empower TG and strengthen their role in fostering responsible tourism practices. This research offers valuable insights for policymakers, tourism operators, and educators. Target strategies must be developed to enhance the tour guiding profession and promote sustainable tourism in the region.
