This chapter provides a comprehensive overview of risk mitigation strategies for built heritage, focusing on conservation, maintenance, structural interventions, and climate change actions. It begins by outlining the core principles of conservation and restoration, followed by an examination of monitoring systems for preventive maintenance, distinguishing between static and dynamic approaches and the use of specialized sensors for structural and environmental assessment. The chapter then presents strengthening interventions for both local and global collapse mechanisms, detailing traditional techniques such as tie rods, grout injection, and reinforced plaster, as well as innovative approaches like the application of composite materials. Additionally, the mitigation framework also considers actions to address the impacts of climate change, including the effects of temperature fluctuations, moisture, precipitation, wind, and solar radiation at both the urban and building scales. Strategies such as Urban Heat Island Intensity mitigation, bioprotection measures, moisture management, flood prevention, and UV protection are presented as part of an integrated approach. The chapter emphasizes the importance of combining traditional knowledge with innovative methods to ensure the long-term resilience and conservation of historic structures.
