Mental Health Conditions in the Perinatal Period
摘要
Mental health conditions affect more than 1 in 5 people in the perinatal period and are the leading cause of maternal mortality in the US. Devastating outcomes such as suicide and overdose are preventable, but perinatal mental health conditions often go undertreated or untreated. There are significant short and long-term consequences to undertreatment of mental health conditions, and thus screening and appropriate treatment are essential. Stigma remains a prominent barrier to care, therefore, patients and support person education is essential to facilitate access to care. High-quality, accessible mental health supports and treatments are available, and Ob/Gyns are at the forefront of helping patients access these essential resources.
