The scope of integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India’s higher education segment is reshaping the landscape of teaching and research. This study investigates Human–AI interaction among college professors, focusing on their engagement with AI tools, perceived benefits, and challenge faced and training needs. Using questionnaires, data were collected from a diverse sample of 300 faculty members across various disciplines. The results show that although AI technologies boost output and enable tailored education, concerns about employment loss, irrelevant and insufficient training endure. This study emphasizes the need for focused professional development initiatives to promote successful human–artificial intelligence (AI) collaboration in higher education in the Indian scenario. AI tools can help promote creative teaching–learning strategies and improve student outcomes potentially. This will pave the way for dynamic and enthusiastic AI Enabled workforce and environment for the benefit of the academic fraternity.
