Ontology-Driven Knowledge Mapping: An Efficient Approach to Improve Organizational Learning

The paper is focused on the co-design of ontologies of university teachers’ knowledge. These ontologies reflect the structure both of the subject areas and faculty activities with the subsequent development of knowledge maps to simplify the processes of knowledge sharing in a company. All the processes of company learning include knowledge creating, retaining, transferring, searching and processing for the better co-operation and performance. The approach to the visual mapping of the university faculty knowledge is presented. It is based on the triad of faculty activities: teaching, research, and consulting. For each activity the ontology is developed. These ontologies reflect the skeleton of the activities. In educational and scientific work, we focus on creating taxonomies that allow us to describe the activities of a teacher taking into account the knowledge and competencies. The paper discusses the methods used for the development of digital maps, forming a multidimensional knowledge portrait of teachers and researchers. Taking into account the proposed methodology and the data gathered, we established a framework outlining the key characteristics of knowledge maps for educational and research institutions. This framework is recognized as a valuable component of organizational intellectual capital and a source of competitive advantage, offering visual guidance for managers and experts seeking to identify, assess, or enhance knowledge within an organizational setting. Besides it can be integrated into the university knowledge management systems. This visual representation could be employed to delineate the flow of both internal and external information, thereby enhancing the efficiency of creativity and innovation. The individual portraits of teachers may be integrated into the collective portrait of the department or the school in general.
