The fundamental reason for a student to engage in research is curiosity. However, during recent decades, financial agreements and conditions for research students have become increasingly relevant. Before the introduction of research ethics committees, the recruitment of research students from regular university courses was informal. But gradually, competition has increased. This has increased the risks of faking and falsifying data. The number of research students is rapidly growing, while the proportion of “late” students with many years of practical experience who want to perform research is decreasing.
