Bone and Joint Infections: Introduction and Epidemiology
摘要
Bone and joint infections (BJIs) encompass a range of pathological conditions, including osteomyelitis, septic arthritis, and infections associated with prosthetic joints. These infections present significant clinical challenges due to their varied etiology, complex diagnosis, and demanding treatment regimens. The epidemiology of BJIs has evolved significantly throughout history, influenced by changes in medical practices, public health measures, and socioeconomic conditions. Recent trends indicate an increase in prosthetic joint infections due to the rising number of joint replacement surgeries, underscoring the need for stringent infection control measures. Additionally, the burden of BJIs in elderly populations is increasing, reflecting broader demographic shifts.
