It facilitates rules allowing more access to data to be created and enforced, ensuring security and privacy from the data controls. Effective data governance may be necessary to address data inconsistencies across different systems within a company. Inadequate data governance may also impede efforts to comply with regulations. This could cause problems for companies that have to follow the increasing number of data privacy and protection laws, such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
