Obesity is increasing in prevalence worldwide and the World Health Organization (WHO) has recently declared it a global epidemic, especially among some minority groups in the United States and Canada. It is a chronic, and progressive disease adversely impacting health, quality of life, morbidity, and mortality. This chapter reviews the substantial impact of obesity on pregnancy outcomes and on infertility treatments, and provides an up-to-date summary of the main interventions for obesity management. Weight loss management by lifestyle and behavioral interventions remain the primary component of treatment, with bariatric surgery as an option of last resort as the most effective and durable treatment. This review will also evaluate the effect of the new promising medications (i.e., Glucagon-like peptide-1 [GLP-1] analogs) for weight loss in obese patients.

摘要
