Diagnostic laparoscopy (DL) has become an indispensable tool in modern surgery, enabling detailed visualization of intra-abdominal and pelvic structures with minimal clinical consequences for patients. It provides critical diagnostic and therapeutic advantages in cases of severe unexplained abdominal pain, and in cases where imaging fails to diagnose common acute conditions such as appendicitis, acute cholecystitis, and ectopic pregnancy. In addition, diagnostic laparoscopy is gaining popularity in blunt and penetrating abdominal trauma in hemodynamically stable patients, cancer staging, and infertility amongst others. This chapter outlines the indications, contraindications, technical approaches, and systematic inspection process for diagnostic laparoscopy, supported by recent clinical evidence. Practical tips for beginners and illustrative case scenarios are also included.
