However, it requires a distinct skill set, including hand-eye coordination, depth perception, and camera manipulation. The integration of simulation-based training has become essential for developing these skills, addressing the challenges posed by limited operative opportunities and work time constraints. Various simulation modalities—ranging from physical box trainers and virtual reality systems to augmented reality—provide safe, structured environments for skill acquisition and assessment without compromising patient safety. Simulation-based training has proven effective in transferring technical skills to real operating rooms, reducing errors, and improving surgical outcomes. Despite these benefits, barriers such as cost, realism, and integration into curricula persist. This chapter explores the role of simulation in laparoscopic surgical education, discusses the advantages and limitations of different simulation technologies, and highlights future directions.
