The aim of this research is to study the effect of semantic priming on eye movements and its potential use for early diagnosis of glaucoma. Two groups were studied (26 healthy subjects and 19 patients with glaucoma) using Gazepoint GP3 HD eye tracker. The main findings are: i) patients with glaucoma use a lower number of fixations that are with - longer durations for exploring static scenes if compared to healthy controls and ii) mean amplitude of saccades for each picture is higher in glaucoma patients versus healthy controls, but this difference declined to the values of the control group and for some pictures mean amplitude in glaucoma subjects was even lower after semantic priming. It is concluded that duration and frequencies of fixation and saccade magnitude can be used for an early diagnosis of glaucoma and following its progression. Additionally, semantic priming decreases the difference in fixations and saccade amplitudes between healthy subjects and glaucoma patients. Therefore, semantic priming seems to be a simple and suitable practice to ease the everyday life tasks of people with glaucoma, which influences independently from the impact of therapy.
