Archaeological artifacts are discovered each year during fieldwork, but vast amounts of them don’t make their way to exhibition halls. Modern technologies allow important cultural heritage to be showcased online in front of a wide audience through different immersive techniques, thus being an excellent tool to promote, share awareness and spread knowledge. In order to display archaeological artifacts in a realistic way, accurate digital documentation is mandatory. The focus of this study falls on the demonstration of a robust digital documentation workflow of archaeological artifacts, which includes well-established techniques like 3D scanning, photogrammetry and texture mapping. Ten vessels from the Necropolis of Baley collection, richly decorated with white-filled incised motifs, were documented using a structured light scanner and photographed on a 360-degree turn-table for photogrammetric models. The resulting 3D models of both techniques were combined and compared to create optimized accurate and realistic digital copies of the vessels with high-accuracy geometry and high-resolution textures.
