This chapter deals with the layout and size of power house which depends largely on the type of generating equipment and the type of coupling of turbine with the generator. The reaction turbine has a scroll case and a draft tube and their dimensions are related with turbine runner diameter and these relations are briefly described. Similarly, an impulse turbine needs a wheel housing and a pit which is connected with tail race. The dimensions of housing and pit are related with pitch diameter of the wheel and these relations are also given here. The criteria to determine the size of generator are also described. It is also explained that how the dimensions of turbine and generator can be used to work out the size of generating unit and the length, width and height of the power house.
