Design of Structures on Water Conductor
摘要
This chapter deals with the structures which are provided in a water conductor. When the water conductor is a channel it has to cross drainages. The structures normally required to cross the drainages are either an aqueduct or a syphon. Their design aspects are briefly described. Both channel and tunnel type water conductors in a run-of-river project normally require desilting arrangement. Generally desilting basins are provided. The design principles and procedure of designing a desilting basin are briefly described. In small hydro projects where discharges available for power generation are small, vortex type basins and vortex tubes are preferred because these need small flushing discharge as compared to a desilting basin. The design principles and procedures of designing vortex type desitting measures are also briefly presented. The layout and design features of a balancing reservoir which may be created in the water conductor are also briefly mentioned.
