This chapter describes intake structures which are provided by the side of the diversion structure to ensure regulated flow with minimum head loss and sediment entry into the water conductor. It is generally a concrete gravity structure which is provided with a bell mouth entry and is fitted with a regulation gate and the trash rack to prevent entry of trash during monsoon. It is hydraulically designed in such a manner that sediment entry is minimum. The design aspects of different types of intake structures which are suitable with a weir/barrage, a concrete dam and an embankment dam, are described in this chapter. Intakes which are provided at the end of a forebay and for a canal power house are also described.

摘要
