Higher Education Institutions (HEI), as pioneers of innovation, technology, education, and research, seek to incorporate sustainable development issues into their activities, training professionals capable of dealing with environmental demands and prospecting an environmentally sustainable model of society. This study evaluates the sustainability indicators of the ten Brazilian HEI with the best scores in the latest UI GreenMetric (GM) Ranking. The methodology used was documentary research, based on literature review, analysis of data extracted from the latest GM ranking, institutional development plans and other documents. After analyzing the information, the SWOT tool was used to highlight and identify strengths and opportunities for improvement, as well as common points in each institution. The environmental management profile of the HEI analyzed was thus outlined, highlighting the priority areas and those that require more attention, so that the institutions can improve their GM scores, as well as institutionalize larger projects involving the main environmental issues.
