Different initiatives have been implemented in universities worldwide to contribute to sustainability and climate justice. This paper aims to evaluate the potential of research and outreach projects to promote sustainable development in different areas. To this end, a set of projects supported by the Green Office UPF at the University of Passo Fundo, Brazil, is presented as case studies. The projects, primarily characterized by their multidisciplinary nature, also integrate the community, teaching staff, and students. Each project was analyzed for its direct contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals. The results of this paper highlight the relevance of using the academic environment to promote sustainable initiatives. It also provides practical examples of how universities can integrate the goals into their activities, demonstrating various approaches that can be applied in higher education institutions.
