Organizational Citizenship Behavior for the Environment and Its Relationship with Organizational Commitment and Personal Norms: A Study Carried Out with University
摘要
Several studies have been carried out with the objective of better understanding the characteristics of our engagement with the environment. In addition to individual characteristics, the literature suggests that contextual characteristics may also influence the process. In this light, the term organizational citizenship behavior for the environment was coined taking into account work settings. To understand the influence of organizational commitment on the relationship between personal norms and organizational citizenship behavior for the environment. Data for this study was collected from 318 employees (professors and administrative personnel) of three Brazilian universities with the help of a questionnaire based on Norm Activation Theory. The structural equation modelling was used for data analysis. The findings show that there is no positive relationship between organizational commitment and organizational citizenship behavior for the environment. However, the relationship between personal norms and organizational citizenship behavior for the environment was confirmed. The inclusion of organizational commitment as a mediating variable in a relationship that positively influences OCBE is little explored, considering personal characteristics as antecedents.
