Research and development activities focused on sustainability play a pivotal role within Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), particularly when integrated into the academic environment to validate and disseminate effective practices. However, sustaining such initiatives can pose significant challenges within HEIs, stemming from the fragmentation between academic and administrative fields. This article introduces a Framework Model for Energy Management, drawn from a case study of UNICAMP’s Sustainable Campus project group, illustrating the seamless integration of research outcomes into institutional structures. By executing a series of sub-projects aimed at enhancing energy sustainability, the Framework exemplifies a comprehensive approach aligning curriculum, research, and operational strategies, based upon five pillars: research, management, monitoring, training, and open data, thereby fostering continuous flow of data-driven actions and long-term management strategies. This integration addresses the pressing sustainability issues within HEIs and provides a replicable model for academic and innovative city environments.
