Interdisciplinary Approaches to Socio-environmental Training in Undergraduate Programs: Fostering a Culture of Sustainability
摘要
The chapter highlights a collaborative process achieved through inter-institutional cooperation among faculty, educators, and students to foster a culture of sustainability in undergraduate courses at a public university in Brazil. The Academic Consortia for Undergraduate Teaching Excellence Project (CAEG) was developed in alignment with USP’s Environmental Policy (Resolution no. 7465, 2018), aiming to promote sustainability. Environmental education played a significant role in integrating the socio-environmental dimension across all undergraduate courses in an integrated, cross-cutting and interdisciplinary manner, establishing it as a continuous educational practice. The consortium implemented various initiatives, including the consolidation of a course, the development of local intervention projects, and a research study involving undergraduate students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The chapter reflects on how this experience contributed to fostering a culture of sustainability and integrating environmental education into the undergraduate curricula, through a network of environmental education. It is a case study that considers aspects such as interdisciplinarity, transformative pedagogy, and critical engagement. The results provided valuable insights for the implementation, evaluation, and structuring actions and projects focused on environmental education in undergraduate courses.
