Advanced Ammonia Detection Technologies Using Metal–Organic Frameworks (MOFs) as Environmental Monitoring

AmmoniaAmmonia (NH) (NH3) is a significant environmental pollutant, primarily produced in agricultural activities, industrial processes, and waste managementWaste management. This leads to negative effects on air and water quality. The growing concerns regarding ammonia emissionsEmission require the development of efficient detection methods to monitor their concentration in different environments. Metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) is considered one of the promising materials for ammonia sensingSensing due to their unique structural properties like tunable porosity, exceptional surface area, robust in nature and the capability for chemical modification. The AIArtificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted MOF based advanced fabrication system successfully addressed the challenge in ammonia detection under humid conditions and archived accuracy of 90–98% in complex gas mixture of environment. The recent research presents a novel approach by combining superior properties of MOF materials and machine learningMachine learning algorithm to achieve excellent sensing performance. This chapter highlights the effect of ammonia on human health and the environment and then discusses sensing methods and the latest innovations in sensor design. Insights into future directions for research and development are also discussed, emphasizing the potential of MOFs combined with Artificial Intelligence (AI) to advance environmental sustainabilitySustainability and enhance pollution remediation efforts.
