Many coaches build on the expertise acquired in their coaching training as well as on the practical experience of other coaches or on their own experience. The background here often consists of general scientific views and directions, which differ greatly among the various coaching trainings. Accordingly, the coaching concepts preferred by coaches are also very different. However, the differences are rarely discussed openly in a critical discourse, as would be required from a scientific perspective. This chapter presents a selection of basic concepts that are still particularly current internationally, together with their roots. It is an attempt to promote discourse on directions and concepts.
