The primary goal of this project is to develop a framework that combines governance with the economy to revolutionize cacao cultivation in Portoviejo, Ecuador. This initiative aims to enhance resource efficiency, minimize waste generation, and promote the generation of value in the chocolate production line. The key research question is; In what ways can this technology enhance the sustainability, profitability and durability of cacao farming in Portoviejo? The research employed the Delphi technique with a group of specialists to confirm indicators linked to management and the circular economy concept it was supported by a detailed examination of a specific case and an extensive review of existing literature, on circular economy models in agriculture. The findings suggest that the division, within the cacao industry restricts technology access and impedes the embrace of green approaches. Implementing a thought-out governance approach and leveraging tools and technology advancements could enhance collaboration among industry stakeholders and promote the incorporation of circular economy concepts, especially when it comes to utilizing residual materials like cacao shells in Portoviejo, and increase competitiveness and sustainability in the sector. Collaboration between producers and relevant stakeholders is essential for addressing existing challenges, like the shortage of infrastructure and technological expertise.
