Study on the Influence of Tool Path Parameters on the Surface Accuracy of the Saddle When Machining on 3-Axis CNC Milling Machine

This paper investigates the influence of tool path parameters when machining saddle-shaped freeform surfaces on a 3-axis CNC milling machine. The saddle surface is a type of freeform surface widely used in industries such as automotive, mold-making, and aerospace. The machining process of saddle surfaces involves roughing and finishing stages, which can be time-consuming. In this study, the author uses the Taguchi experimental design method to evaluate the impact of tool path parameters during the machining process in order to find the optimal parameter set for machining saddle surfaces on a 3-axis CNC milling machine. Experimental results show that the tool path style significantly affects the quality of the saddle surface shaping. These findings can be used as a reference when machining freeform surfaces in industrial production.
