In the world of technological development, learners not only acquire literacy skills but also develop multiliteracies to respond to the diverse multimodal modes of communication both within and beyond English language classrooms. This systematic review provides a systematic overview of multimodality in language education between 1996 and 2024 and also highlights the recent research trends over the past five years, from 2020 to 2024. The data is analyzed and visualized through the use of detailed data tables and illustrative graphic maps, employing VOSviewer software, Harzing’s Publish or Perish software and MS Excel. The bibliometric analysis from the study shows an informative analysis on the relationship among a wide range of authors, research networks, references on this topic. The findings of the qualitative provides more detailed insights into the emerging research topics.
