Cinnamon essential oils (CNEOs) are known for their antifungal and antibacterial properties. In this study, the antibacterial ability of woven polyethylene fabrics treated with CNEOs was qualitatively evaluated using the parallel streak method. The microbiological results indicated that samples treated with cinnamon oil exhibited excellent bacterial inhibition against both Gram-positive bacteria (S. aureus) and Gram-negative bacteria (E. coli). Notably, the inhibition of S. aureus was more pronounced with only 1% cinnamon oil. Moreover, the liquid content (%) of samples treated with CNEOs decreased with increasing padding pressure and lower wet pick-up values. It was also demonstrated that the wetting agent (glyceryl caprylate) and the pasteurization process significantly influenced the bacterial inhibition of nonwoven fabrics treated with CNEOs. However, the addition of the scent fixative agent (diethyl phthalate) did not affect the antibacterial activity of the treated samples. Finally, survey results on skin allergy and fragrance perception among participants demonstrated the safety and satisfaction associated with CNEO-treated wipes.
