Analyze the Reasonableness of the Testing Velocity Value in Headform Impactor to Bonnet Top Tests

Currently, there are two testing methods to evaluate the severity of pedestrian head injuries in collisions with cars. The first method uses a headform impactor to shoot at the test position and the second method uses a car to impact to a full pedestrian model. Both testing methods were tested at an impact speed of 40 km/h because statistics have shown that 40 km/h is the speed that causes the most serious injuries. In the headform impactor test, 40 km/h is the velocity of the head impacting the bonnet, while in the test with full pedestrian model, 40 km/h is the velocity of the car impacting the pedestrian legs. For the two test methods to be equivalent, in test with a full pedestrian model the velocity of the head part impact to bonnet must also be 40 km/h. In this study, the relationship between the vehicle velocity and the velocity of head part impacting the bonnet in test with a full pedestrian model will be investigated. Simulation method will be used in this study, to have a more solid basis to confirm the results in this study, simulation will be performed with three values of car velocity: 40, 32 and 25 km/h. The results of this study will be very useful in developing more accurate and reliable testing methods.
