Thanks to its outstanding antibacterial ability and safety for human health, many pharmaceutical, cosmetic, health and medical products have applied silver nanomaterials. In this study, silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been successfully synthesized via microemulsion method using clove essential oil as reducing agent and stabilizing agent. AgNPs samples are characterized by modern technologies such as XRD, FTIR, FESEM and UV–Vis. The obtained results indicate that the ratio of Polysorbate 80 surfactant and the ratio of clove essential oil in the microemulsion system affects the formation of silver nanoparticles. E. coli and S. aureus bacteria were used to test the antibacterial ability of AgNPs. The effect of AgNPs on the antibacterial ability of commercial mouthwash was also investigated.
