Influences of Fiber Added to the Durability of Conventional Asphalt Mixture and Stone Mastic Asphalt

Asphalt mixture is the best composite material used for road pavement owing to its numerous benefits. Under hard exploitation conditions including repeated heavy traffic, hot temperatures, or rain erosion as in the case of Vietnam, asphalt pavement is susceptible to fracturing and fatigue damage. Over time, the extent of damage gradually increases, significantly reducing the longevity of the road surfaces. This paper aims at evaluating the influences of fiber added to the mechanical properties and the durability of asphalt mixtures. The Marshall approach was utilized for mix design sample and compaction while SCB test was employed for evaluating the cracking resistance and the durability of asphalt mixtures. The experimental results show that the fiber added permits ameliorating the mechanical properties of the mixtures, the optimal fiber content should be 0.1%. The SCB test results indicate that the fiber added allows improving the cracking resistance of the asphalt mix.
