Impact of Climate Change on Concrete Bridges: A Case Study on Temperature Effects
摘要
Climate change is posing increasingly significant challenges to critical infrastructure, affecting its safety and durability. This study examines the impact of temperature variations on a reinforced concrete bridge located in northeastern Portugal, assessing its behaviour under different climate change scenarios. Using finite element modelling, a structural behaviour analysis is conducted to identify variations in response parameters due to rising temperatures. Specifically, increases in stress and displacement are quantified and compared to the bridge’s initial condition. The results indicate a significant increase in stresses at the base piers, with real chances of cracking under extreme temperature scenarios. This study highlights the importance of maintenance and adaptation strategies to minimize the effects of climate change on critical infrastructure.
