Digital Twin (DT) systems rely on high-throughput and reliable message transmission to maintain synchronization between physical assets and their digital counterparts. These requirements are addressed through distributed messaging technologies, which support scalability, fault-tolerant and real-time data processing. Apache Kafka is a solution for these requirements, but depending on architectural needs, other technologies may be suitable. This paper compares some messaging technologies based on a series of metrics, such as durability, throughput, and integration with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL).
