Traditional Craft Experience System Using Virtual Reality Technology
摘要
The traditional crafts of Japan are cultural assets with a long history. However, they are currently in decline owing to a declining birthrate, an aging population, the lack of successors, and the influence of Westernized lifestyles. Younger generations, in particular, are losing interest, thereby raising urgent concerns about the future of traditional crafts. This study developed a virtual reality system that enables real-time three-dimensional painting of traditional crafts. The proposed system allows users to interactively enjoy painting traditional crafts while interacting with others. For the evaluation, 40 participants were asked to assess their satisfaction while painting and the smoothness of sharing their paintings with remote users.
