Implementation of Gemini API in Journaling Application to Increase Positive Emotion of Generation Z
摘要
Mental health concerns are increasingly prevalent among Generation Z, yet traditional psychological consultations remain inaccessible due to financial, geographical, and social barriers. This study introduces Aetheria, a web-based journaling application that leverages the Gemini API to analyze journal entries, detect emotions, and provides personalized recommendations aimed at improving emotional well-being. The system evaluates six basic emotions—happiness, sadness, fear, anger, surprise, and disgust—assigning intensity scores to offer users meaningful insights into their emotional states. Additionally, Aetheria generates data-driven visualizations, including radar and line charts, to track emotional trends over time. To assess its effectiveness, a study was conducted using pre- and post-test PANAS (Positive and Negative Affect Schedule) questionnaires, with internal consistency confirmed (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.87). The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test demonstrated a significant improvement in positive emotions (p < 0.05), while negative emotions showed a notable decline, indicating the potential benefits of AI-driven emotional analysis. These findings align with prior research highlighting the benefits of therapeutic journaling in emotional regulation and mental health improvement. The results suggest that AI-powered journaling applications like Aetheria can serve as accessible, data-driven tools for emotional regulation and mental well-being, bridging the gap between traditional mental health support and modern technological advancements.
