Global Action Plan and Antibiotic Stewardship

The World Health Organization has adopted a Global Action Plan to tackle antimicrobial resistance and to meet the goals of the plan, all member states have implemented their own National Action Plans. Such plans of some countries are discussed. Antibiotic Stewardship Programs for the responsible use of antibiotics have been adopted at local levels. The responsibilities of regulatory agencies, healthcare providers, patients, pharmaceutical companies, scientists, and the government for the proper use of antibiotics to prevent development of antimicrobial resistance have been discussed. Subtherapeutic use of antibiotics for growth promotion of animals and banning of such practice have also been discussed in relation to antimicrobial resistance.
