Breaking Stereotypes: Lisa Sauermann’s Mathematical and Social Insights

Lisa Sauermann is a Full Professor at the Hausdorff Center for Mathematics (HCM) of the University of Bonn. She was born in 1992 in Dresden, Germany. She studied at the University of Bonn and she completed her PhD at Stanford University, before becoming Assistant Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 2021, and then Full Professor at the University of Bonn in 2023. Lisa is best known for her results in extremal and probabilistic combinatorics, as well as for her achievements at the International Mathematical Olympiad, where she won four gold medals and one silver medal, and where in 2011 she was the only participant who reached a perfect score.
