Research indicates that 22–39% of psychologists and 51–82% of psychiatrists experience at least one patient suicide during their careers. This loss can have a profound emotional and professional impact, leading to fear, uncertainty, and shifts in therapeutic approaches. Despite these challenges, many clinicians are left to navigate their grief without adequate institutional support, highlighting the need for structured postvention strategies. This chapter explores the postvention needs of affected clinicians, drawing on existing literature and an exploratory study of psychiatrists and psychotherapists who have encountered this experience. It also presents recommended institutional postvention strategies, highlighting the importance of individual and group psychological support within a collaborative and well-prepared healthcare system.
