Knowledge, skills and feelings can be expressed in spatial semiosis by the means of codes that specialize on diverse functions. Their semiotic means may be focused on the expression of descriptive, prescriptive and evaluative meanings related to different aspects of human activity. Some of these semiotic systems are specialized at the cognitive functions—as ideographic codes conveying logical meanings or as pictographic codes covering infralogical levels of cognition as well. There are also spatial codes specializing at the projective functions. Their means evoke patterns of movement and action at different levels of behaviour planning. Distinct award systems fulfill the function of evaluation by encoding it at the rational level. At the same time, mimic and tactile codes serve as semiotic means to express and evoke diverse emotions as modes of evaluation at the level of feeling. Due to their structural and functional differences, such spatial codes do not duplicate each other and are used both together and separately in various combinations. They interact differently in a variety of cultural fields, particularly in spatial arts.
