The measurement of violence against women is challenging due to its sensitive and multifaceted nature as well as to methodological limitations, when considering administrative data of judiciary nature and survey-based data. The measurement of the phenomenon calls for the adoption of a multi-sources approach that enhances each data source that has the potential to inform on magnitude and dynamics of VAW. Amid the increasing volume of data originating from various sources, citizen-generated data provide a unique opportunity for the official statistics to address data gaps in terms of availability, comparability, timeliness, integration. Nevertheless, these data are often not produced for statistical purposes, and National Statistical Offices frequently encounter challenges in leveraging such an opportunity. The Italian National Institute of Statistics (Istat), in collaboration with the National Department of Equal Opportunities, implemented an informative statistical system on VAW. Within this framework, a dedicated data collection system has been established to collect data from specialized services supporting women survivors of violence, such as anti-violence centers and shelters. This paper, drawing on the Copenhagen Framework on Citizen Data, discusses the key steps that enabled the integration of citizen-generated data into official statistics, the lessons learned, and the future actions to be undertaken.

摘要
