Smart City Standardization in Japan

Facing urban agglomeration trends, an ageing population, and disaster risks, Japan has pioneered smart community standards for global use. These standards assist community managers, businesses, and other organizations in strengthening their adaptive capacities. Japan’s experience in smart community infrastructure has led to key contributions in ISO, resulting in international standards for sustainable city development. This chapter details the history of ISO standardization and Japan’s role in creating deliverables that supporting the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and promotes disaster resilient communities.
