Sleep Health During Pregnancy: A Focus on Prevention
摘要
New approaches to sleep health underline the importance of promoting sleep for the overall well-being of populations. Pregnant women are particularly vulnerable not only to sleep-wake disorders but also to poor sleep health, including insufficient sleep duration, sleep timing variability, and poor sleep satisfaction. There is a growing need for evidence-based prevention that can be included in routine healthcare programmes for pregnant women. This chapter outlines the rationale for preventive programmes and contents to be included when promoting sleep health in the peripartum period. We present a new preventive approach, which goes beyond standard sleep hygiene education, includes the construct of sleep health as a multidimensional process, and the five principles of good sleep health proposed by Espie. It is crucial to promote self-management of sleep health in pregnant women, considering the unique challenges to healthy sleep during the peripartum period.
